Aligners for teeth We all hear about how smiling makes us happier and how it is beneficial to us, yet we fail to smile openly. What could be the reason for us to hold our smiles back? Don’t we all have our own set of reasons? A few of us do not need a reason to smile while the rest of us have our reasons not to. You often hear of the positive power of a smile. A recent trip with a few of my friends brought this to light to me, as well as the negative power that is portrayed when it is missing.
We were heading towards the highway and decided to stop for a cup of coffee. As we approached the counter, we were ignored for about a minute while several employees chatted a bit amongst themselves. We patiently waited until the representative made eye contact with us. With no smile or greeting whatsoever, and with a clearly visible “what do you want” look and tone, she said to us “What would you like?” We ordered, and once we got back to the car with our coffees, we looked at each other and at the very same time said “Wow!”. The coffee was decent but would we ever go back to a place that didn’t even feel welcoming? , obviously not. After a while we again stopped to get some milkshakes. That experience was the complete opposite. We were greeted with a smile, asked how our day was going, and how they could help us. We felt acknowledged, invited, appreciated, and left feeling quite pleased and positive.Â
A smile is more than an expression. It is more of an attitude. Holding our unique smiles back could interpret the wrong attitude. It could portray the person you don’t want to be.Â
In a poll conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, more than nine out of ten (92%) of adults agreed that an attractive smile is an important social asset, while 85% said that an unattractive smile makes someone less appealing.
Studies show that a straighter, more confident smile can help you become more successful and be perceived the same way by others. A confident, beautiful smile can help your self-esteem, your social standing, and can open opportunities to you that you otherwise would not have had. However, a great smile is something that takes dedication and special care throughout your life. In fact, studies show that those who have a straighter, more beautiful smile tend to be more confident.Â
